Polydream Scratched From Breeders' Cup Mile, Head Furious

Polydream (Ire) (Oasis Dream {GB}), the 5-1 morning line favourite for the GI Breeders' Cup Mile, has been scratched on the order of the state veterinarians, Pierre Yves-Bureau, Manager for Wertheimer et Frere confirmed Friday morning. Successful in the G1 LARC Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville in August, the Freddie Head trainee was judged by the official veterinarians to be lame in a foreleg. She is a homebred for Wertheimer et Frere. The news was first reported by the Daily Racing Form.

“I am furious,” Freddy Head told Jour de Galop. “It is scandalous. It's a shame. She is a filly whose knees are not perfect and who does not trot very well. The veterinarian felt she was trotting poorly and that she could not run. I am furious. Furious. She has a wonderful action and she was at her best. For me, what does it mean? That I bring a horse that is not able to run? It is scandalous. They felt she was not trotting well. She trots as she trots. They are gallopers, not trotters, that we train. They have a state vet, and there is nothing to be done. It's a bit crazy, all these stories of animal protection, in a country where the horses are loaded up on all sides. My mare, she had nothing, she did not have Lasix and we're keeping her from running? It's scandalous. Scandalous.”

Group 1 winner Clemmie (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) will now draw into the Mile field. She is the second also-eligible to enter the Mile fray after Divisidero (Kitten's Joy) drew in upon Hunt (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire})'s defection earlier in the week.
