Pegasus Contender Leavem in Malibu Euthanized Following Injury

Gary Barber and Conrad Farm's GSW Leavem in Malibu (Malibu Moon), a contender for the Jan. 27 GI Pegasus World Cup at Gulfstream Park, was euthanized after being injured during a workout Monday at Palm Meadows. The news was first reported by the Daily Racing Form. According to the report, Leavem in Malibu suffered an injury to a hind ankle while galloping out after a five-furlong workout completed in 1:00.40.

A full-brother to the ill-fated GISP Danzig Moon, Leavem in Malibu competed in all three races in Canada's 2016 Triple Crown, placing second in the Prince of Wales S. and third in the Breeders' S. He wrapped up his 4-year-old season in 2017 with a score in the GIII Valedictory S. at Woodbine Dec. 10. Monday's workout was the bay's second workout since the race and his first at Palm Meadows.
