Observations on the European Racing Scene for Friday, Oct. 21

1.20 Newbury, Mdn, £8,000, 2yo, 8fT
UAE KING (GB) (Frankel (GB)">Frankel {GB}), a debutante for Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum and Roger Varian, wins the award for most excitingly-bred runner of the day as a son of Juddmonte's ceaselessly brilliant flagship performer out of the G1 Oaks d'Italia and GII E.P. Taylor S. heroine Zomaradah (GB) (Deploy {GB}). That makes him a half-brother to Dubawi (Ire), winner of the G1 Irish 2000 Guineas, G1 Prix Jacques le Marois and G1 National S. and now an outstanding sire of world renown. Interestingly, he is the sire of Godolphin's fellow newcomer Sea Skimmer (GB), a Saeed bin Suroor-trained full-brother to the G1SW Hunter's Light (Ire), with another unraced colt taking the eye in Qatar Racing's Deep Music (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}), a David Simcock-trained full-brother to the G1 Shuka Sho winner Mikki Queen (Jpn).

1.50 Newbury, Mdn, £6,600, 2yo, 6 1/2fT
MOSTAHEL (GB) (Acclamation {GB}) is a 220,000gns TATOCT purchase for Al Shaqab Racing who is a full-brother to the dual G1 King's Stand S. winner and established sire Equiano (Fr). Richard Hannon introduces the bay against 15 rivals.

2.25 Newbury, Mdn, £8,000, 2yo, 8fT
COMMANDER (GB) (Frankel (GB)">Frankel {GB}) starts out for the China Horse Club and Roger Varian and is a 670,000gns TATOCT half-brother to the G1 Haydock Sprint Cup and G1 Prix Maurice de Gheest hero Regal Parade (GB) (Pivotal {GB}). He encounters Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum's similarly unraced Eagle Creek (GB) (Raven's Pass), a Simon Crisford-trained 200,000gns TATOCT half-brother to this year's Listed Dee S. winner Viren's Army (Ire) (Twirling Candy).

3.0 Doncaster, Mdn, £7,000, 2yo, 7fT
VALCARTIER (IRE) (Redoute's Choice {Aus}) begins his career in the maiden picked by his trainer John Gosden 12 months ago for the successful introduction of the subsequent G3 Rose of Lancaster S. winner Royal Artillery (War Front). Godolphin's €950,000 ARQAUG purchase is a son of the G1 Prix Saint-Alary heroine Vadawina (Ire) (Unfuwain) who has already passed on much of her natural ability to her pattern-race performers Vadamar (Fr) (Dalakhani {Ire}), Vedevani (Fr) (Dubawi {Ire}) and Vedouma (Fr) (Dalakhani {Ire}). Just as illustriously-bred is the Juddmonte newcomer Mirage Dancer (GB) (Frankel (GB)">Frankel {GB}), a Sir Michael Stoute-trained son of the dual grade I winner Heat Haze (GB) (Green Desert) whose 3-year-old son Forge (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) was third in the G3 Jersey S. and runner-up in the G3 Thoroughbred S. for the stable this summer.
