No decision has been made yet on a potential next start for Spendthrift's champion Beholder (Henny Hughes), the farm's general manager Ned Toffey said Monday morning at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga sales grounds.
“We are waiting for [trainer] Richard [Mandella] to tell us his decision and I'm sure he is waiting for Beholder to tell him,” explained Toffey.
Beholder had an eight-race win streak snapped with a hard-fought runner-up effort behind Stellar Wind (Curlin) in the July 30 GI Clement L. Hirsch S. Before that defeat, the plan was to run the three-time Eclipse champion in the Aug. 20 GI Pacific Classic.
“She came out of the race in good shape, but obviously she had to run hard, so we are just going to wait and let Richard tell us when she is ready,” Toffey said.
