New Year's Resolutions: Dave Johnson

At New Year's time, we thought it appropriate to ask our racing community for their resolutions. Each participant was asked for one racing-related resolution, and one non-racing one. Up today: Dave Johnson.

2018 Professional Resolution:

My first affection for thoroughbred racing was through the eyes of my parents and grandparents. We loved the game at Fairmount Park, across the river from St. Louis. My family was not involved in racing, these were just outings that brought me to see the beauty of the sport, the excitement and the animal, while enjoying the company of my loved ones of all ages. Then I got a job in racing. Then writing, broadcasting and gambling became my main focus. Last year, I had such fun writing for the TDN about the people, the horses and the stories surrounding the Royal Ascot meet that I want to get back and share the heartbeat of this daily spectacle with as many as I can, in person, in print and in my broadcasts on Sirius XM radio. That is my New Year's resolution, which I hope to fulfill.

2018 Personal Resolution:

My pet peeve last year was how tracks trash their patrons (and hurt their bottom line) by running a race at the exact same time as another major track, sometimes at a venue owned by the same corporation! I resolve not gamble on any race carded, scheduled or run at the same time as another race at a major track. If all horseplayers would do that, a light bulb might go on in the offices of those tracks guilty of this stupidity and malfeasance.
