Mohaymen Gets some R&R

Mohaymen | Lauren King

Shadwell's Mohaymen (Tapit), fourth in last week's GI Kentucky Derby, will get some time off before being pointed towards a summer campaign at Saratoga.

“We brought him to the clinic [after the Derby] just to get him checked out and got a full bill of health,” said trainer Kiaran McLaughlin. “He's getting a few days to stand around in tall grass and then he'll go to Saratoga and settle in up there.”

McLaughlin was happy with Mohaymen's Derby effort.

“He ran very well,” the trainer said. “He didn't break really well, but he got his best number on the sheets so far, but Nyquist is a star.”

McLaughlin also gave an upbeat bulletin on Grade I winner Frosted (Tapit), most recently fifth in the G1 Dubai World Cup. The 4-year-old breezed a half-mile in :48.20 last Friday at Greentree Training Center in Saratoga.

“He's working on Fridays and we're pointing for the [June 11 GI] Met Mile,” McLaughlin of Frosted. “We were going to go a different direction, but the Met Mile is such a valuable race. A mile isn't necessarily an ideal distance for him, but it is when they go :22, :44 and 1:09. So we'll point to the Met Mile with him and [GI Malibu S. runner-up] Marking (Bernardini).”

Of Stonestreet Stable's Cavorting (Bernardini), five-length winner of Saturday's GI Ruffian S., McLaughlin said, “She came back great.” The 4-year-old filly will likely start next in the June 11 GI Ogden Phipps S.
