Pure Silver turned back the bid of heavily favored I Still Miss You (Majestic Warrior) in the stretch to stay unbeaten in the New York-bred Lynbrook S. at Belmont. A wire-to-wire winner on debut here June 22, the $125,000 OBS March buy was made a distant second choice behind the odds-on favorite, who followed up a first-out victory of her own with a score in the Astoria S. June 8. Catching a flier out of the gate, Pure Silver established command immediately and led the chalk by a length through a :23.01 quarter. That one was scrubbed on to go after the leader passing the three-eighths pole and ranged up to the leader's flank in early stretch, but Pure Silver stiff-armed that foe around the eighth pole and kept on to triumph.

“She broke so fast, it was kind of weird,” said winning pilot John Velazquez. “She was so fast, she was on the ground and in the next step, she's up and running. She got pressed and when she had to put in a fight, she did it all the way.”

The victress became the second stakes winner for her sophomore sire (by Unbridled's Song). She has a yearling full-brother and a half-sister by Graydar foaled this season. Pure Silver was selected by agent Nick Hines as his “Buy of the Day” at OBS March in the Mar. 16 edition of the TDN. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
