Demonic’s reputation preceded him coming into this debut, and he was backed down to even-money off a strong local worktab, accentuated by a six-furlong bullet (1/21) in 1:12 flat over the strip Jan. 4. Allowed to lope along in mid-pack in the early going while kept out in the clear, the handsome newcomer ranged up menacingly around the quarter pole. He confronted leaders Tiz the Truth (Tiznow) and Del Mar Sunset (Candy Ride {Arg}) in mid-stretch, appearing poised to blow by them, but idled a bit after coming to even terms with the pair of Baffert trainees. Despite his apparent immaturity, Demonic struck the wire a head to the good of Tiz the Truth with Del Mar Sunset not far behind. According to Trakus data, Demonic covered 24 feet more than the runner-up, which equates to more than 2 1/2 lengths. Out of 2000 GIII Delaware Oaks winner Sincerely, the $400,000 KEESEP yearling is a half to Silver Edition (Silver Deputy), SW & MGSP, $377,685. Sincerely has a 2-year-old colt by Giant’s Causeway and a yearling filly by Candy Ride (Arg). Demonic’s third dam Furl Sail (Revoked) was champion 3-year-old filly in 1967.
