A $45,000 KEESEP RNA who blossomed into a $175,000 OBSMAR purchase, was backed down to 3-2 favoritism for this unveiling and proved worthy of the hype. Unhurried early while glued to the rail as I'm Wide Awake (Exchange Rate) and Distinctiv Passion (With Distinction) engaged in a heated speed duel, Cape Bastone made a nice inside-to-out move at the head of the lane, but still had tons of ground to make up on the top two. Pilot Garret Gomez sat chilly on the chestnut blur as he rapidly closed in on the leaders and, though Distinctiv Passion briefly impeded the eventual winner as he drifted out, Capo Bastone continued his improbable drive to victory until he struck the wire a half-length to the good of I'm Wide Awake. Disinctiv Passion held third. According to Trakus data, Capo Bastone covered his final quarter in :23.75--the next-fasted clocking in the field was :25.04. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $42,000.
