There was something afoot for Zantenda's opener here, so much so that Alain and Gerard Wertheimer's newcomer was hammered down to even-money favoritism at the tills. The bay homebred justified the weight of support with an impressive performance in this first step on the ladder. Taking a strong hold in third after a bright start, Zantenda was shuffled back to sixth as the pack tightened on the home turn. However, despite rolling when awoken in early stretch, she found a powerful turn of foot to lead entering the final eighth and allowed Urjooha (Ire) (Iffraaj {GB}) to within a short neck by idling in the latter stages. The pair finished five lengths clear of the remainder. "Zantenda is a filly I like a lot and she won well despite still showing signs of her inexperience," commented trainer Freddy Head. "We will probably run her in a conditions race next, and from there, we shall see if we can target a higher level." Zantenda's granddam La Pitie was secured by the Wertheimers as a weanling for $205,000 at KEENOV in 1989. Twelve years later, she went through the ring while in foal to Green Desert for 315,000gns at TATDEC. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, €12,000.
