Fort Hughes, let go at 7-1 in this unveiling, broke from the rail and exchanged bumps with Rift (Not For Love) in the initial strides. Straightened out, the handsome chestnut assumed control and led the field through fractions of :22.34 and :45.24. He opened up without being asked down the lane and strode home a 5 1/2-length winner under an Alex Solis hand ride. Rift was second. Fort Hughes is the 11th winner for his freshman sire (by Hennessy). Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $30,600.
