Twirling Candy was a well-backed 5-2 for his Nov. 14 debut over this course and distance, and he proved that the hype was legit, taking that sextet gate to wire and earning an 85 Beyer Speed Figure. Trainer John Sadler has a barn full of graded-stakes winning sophs, but did not mince his words in pronouncing Twirling Candy one of the best–if not the best horse–in the stable, and the colt did his part yesterday. Up to track the pace three wide down the backstretch, the dark bay traveled supremely well on the turn, took command at will in upper stretch and went well clear, despite racing a bit greenly. "We want to have him ready for the big three-year-old races this summer," Sadler confirmed. "We wanted a good race back. For a big horse like him [17 hands] to go that fast is quite remarkable." Lifetime Record: 2-2-0-0, $47,400. O: The Craig Family Trust | B: Sid & Jenny Craig | T: John W Sadler |
