Trainer Shug McGaughey only wins at a four-percent clip with first-time starters, but he unveiled a budding star here. The homebred was sent off at 6-1 in her career opener. Off a step slowly from her rail post, she rushed up to battle Alivie (Mongoose) through a half in :45.97. The bay was joined by Muhaawara (Unbridled's Song) at the top of the lane, but turned back that bid and pulled away late to graduate by a handy four lengths. It was 10 lengths back to Alivie in third. The winner is a 1/2 to Pine Island (Arch), MGISW, $666,800. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $21,000.
