This maiden, which has been won by Rip van Winkle (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and Duke of Marmalade (Ire) (Danehill), featured an assembly of potentially smart and well-touted juveniles and there was significant support for this €36,000 GOFSPT yearling. Breaking sharply, the 10-3 second choice was restrained to race behind the early leaders against the fence and cruised into contention as he was angled out for his run before the final quarter. Quickening to the front in a matter of strides with 1 1/2 furlongs remaining, the bay was pushed out to best the eyecatching debutante Stunning View (Ire) (Shamardal) by two lengths. Ballydoyle's 2-1 favorite Viscount Nelson (Giant's Causeway), the half-brother to Horatio Nelson (Ire) (Danehill), raced prominently for a long way but failed to match the acceleration of the front two and finished a further 4 1/2 lengths back in third. The winner is a 1/2 to Prince Arch (Arch), GISW, $569,186. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, 11,747. O: Norman Ormiston | B: Airlie Stud | T: K Prendergast |
