Tale of the West, a $160,000 FTSAUG yearling purchase, went wire-to-wire by 7 1/4 lengths in her Keeneland debut Apr. 20, then posted a pair of easy four-furlong workouts over the Saratoga training track May 13 and 19. Favored at 6-5 to stay perfect here, the Gulf Coast colorbearer was sent to the lead by John Velazquez, set fractions of :22.61 and :46.20 and drew away impressively in the stretch to score by 4 1/2 lengths over four-year-old City Bird (Carson City). Pulpitina (Pulpit) finished a well-beaten fourth. Lifetime Record: 2-2-0-0, $58,730.
