A 3/4-brother to the good distaffer Roar Emotion (Roar), MGSW, $635,912, Understatement was purchased for $1.05 million by WinStar Farm on day one of the 2006 Keeneland September sale. Turned over to Todd Pletcher, the bay colt trained forwardly at Palm Beach Downs ahead of his debut, including a bullet five furlongs in 1:00 4/5 Jan. 26. Sent off the 13-10 chalk to score at first asking, Understatement sped to the early lead, raced well within himself on the front end and drew clear to best Keep Laughing (Distorted Humor) by three lengths in an impressive and professional effort. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $24,000.
