Jim Bolger used this race to introduce Teofilo (Ire) 12 months ago and may have unearthed another potential star in New Approach. The colt is a son of the top-class Park Express, who garnered the 1986 G1 Phoenix Champion S. for the Coolcullen trainer. Sent off the 7-2 second choice here, he raced prominently throughout the opening exchanges before taking over traveling strongly at the quarter pole. Pushed out to repel the strong challenge of Lucifer Sam (Storm Cat) at the furlong marker, the chestnut drew away to score by two lengths. "He’ll more or less follow the Teofilo route," his trainer said, with Leopardstown’s G3 Tyros S. July 28 his likely next port of call.
