Described in favorable terms by Aidan O’Brien at his press day in March, Mahler took two runs to find his feet and followed a no-show in a Leopardstown maiden Apr. 7 with a game success back there 15 days later. Brought out again for this Classic Trial, the 4-5 pick cut out a modest early gallop before being set alight by Seamus Heffernan at the top of the stretch. Galloping away from Ezima (Ire) (Sadler’s Wells) in the final quarter, the 140,000gns TATOCT yearling maintained a relentless gallop to record a 2½-length score. "He ran very green in his first run and we fancied him today, although it was a hot race," his rider commented. "He got to the line really good and he has a bit of class." O’Brien confirmed that Mahler is in the melting pot for the June 2 G1 Epsom Derby. Lifetime Record: 3-2-0-0, Eu27,342. O: Susan Magnier | B: Pegasus Racing Ltd | T: A O’Brien |
