  CHANTILLY, 2.30, Mdn, 19,000, 2yo, f, 1mT, 1:45.20, sf

Chinandega (Fr), F, 2, by Chichicastenango (Fr)

1st Dam: European Style (Fr), by Ezzoud (Ire)
2nd Dam: Sharp Sunrise, by Sharpen Up (GB)
3rd Dam: Vific (Fr), by Rheffic (Fr)

Lining up against a field of 14 fellow newcomers, Chinandega was overlooked by punters who allowed her to start at a whopping 52-1, but she defied the doubters with a performance of pure promise. Breaking well from a wide draw to sit behind the leaders in sixth, the chestnut eased to the outside for her run in early stretch and had her rivals toiling when taking over with a quarter-mile remaining. She accelerated further clear approaching the final furlong, was allowed to coast home in the latter stages and was value for more than the four-length defeat of game pacesetter Garden Route (Cape Town). Chinandega, the second winner for her freshman sire (by Smadoun {Fr}), will now point to the G3 Prix des Reservoirs at Deauville Oct. 17. Lifetime Record: 1 start, 1 win, Eu9,500.
