  NEWMARKET, 3.45, Cond, 15,000, 2yo, 6fT, 1:13.21, gd/fm

  Hamoody, C, 2, by Johannesburg

1st Dam: Northern Gulch, by Gulch
2nd Dam: Northern Style, by Ack Ack
3rd Dam: Northern Heiress, by Nearctic

Despite the presence of some experienced colts in this line-up, the buzz was all for Hamoody and he was sent off the 2-1 crowd’s choice in the race won in the past by Mujahid and Daggers Drawn. Rank off the moderate early tempo, he was still pulling at halfway and only settled when the pace quickened approaching the quarter pole. Challenging wide, the $75,000 KEESEP yearling and 210,000gns Tatts Breeze-Up graduate showed an electric turn of acceleration to lead with 150 yards remaining and rushed to a two-length success from the staying-on Romanov Dynasty (Ire) (Green Desert). "He’s always worked well and is a horse I like a lot," his conditioner commented. "I was going to run him over seven furlongs, but I thought they’d go quicker over six and they crawled, which didn’t help. He over-raced slightly and did a few things wrong, but I do believe one day he’ll be a very good horse. He needs to furnish and relax in life a bit more, but he does everything so easily and has a turn of foot, which is the sign of a pretty good horse. I don’t know where he’ll go, but I’d like to bring him back to the other track for the [Oct. 14] G1 Dewhurst S." Hamoody represents the eighth winner for his freshman sire (by Hennessy). Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, £9,715.
