Holy Roman Emperor, surprisingly allowed to drift to 5-2 as the joint second favorite, broke sharply before being reined back to slot in a tracking fourth to negate his high draw. Pushed up to challenge wide on the home turn by Kieren Fallon, he quickened to lead at the quarter pole and needed only hand riding to comfortably beat El Soprano (Ire) (Noverre) by 1½ lengths.The winner is a half-brother to Heart of Oak (Woodman), SW-Ger & Swe; Big Viking (Theatrical {Ire}), SW-Jpn, $986,363; and a full brother to Milanova (Aus), GSW & MG1SP-Aus. He is a grandson of Canadian champion Fanfreluche, who went on to produce Canadian champions L’Enjoleur, La Voyageuse and Medaille d’Or, and established the family which is responsible for the likes of Encosta de Lago (Aus) and Flying Spur (Aus), among others.
