Minefield went to post in his debut as the crowd’s 5-2 second choice, but ran more like an odds-on monster in an auspicious first outing. From the same connections as Ashado, Minefield broke alertly and raced up to challenge for the lead while between foes. Jockey Rafael Bejarano gave him a bit more rein in upper stretch and the colt responded immediately, bounding away from the pack to secure the victory by 8 1//2 lengths. Longshot Allensworth (Prized) was second, with post-time favorite Carson Camp (Carson City) running a disappointing ninth. Minefield, a $190,000 KEENOV weanling and $400,000 FTSAUG yearling, is a half to Big Cheque (Regal Classic), SP, $363,690. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $31,300. O: Startlight Stable, Jack Wolf, Donald J Lucarelli & Paul Saylor | B: Ashby Thoroughbreds (KY) | T: Todd A Pletcher |
