  Oaktree at Santa Anita, Race 2, Msw, 40,000, 2yo, f, 5 1/2f, 1:03 1/5, ft

Cotton Bay, F, 2, by El Corredor

1st Dam: One Bad Cat, by Mountain Cat
2nd Dam: Stedes Wonder, by Native Royalty
3rd Dam: Bestowed, by Stevward

Cotton Bay was bet down to even-money on the strength of a sparkling work tab and lived up to the billing. The dark bay came away in good order and settled into an easy rhythm in third down the backstretch as Texas Kitty (Forest Wildcat) whistled through fractions of :21 1/5 and :44 1/5. Jockey Victor Espinoza got after the favorite on the turn and she responded, reeling in the pacesetter at the top of the stretch and maintaining a safe two-length margin over the fast-finishing A.P. Surprise (Pulpit), a half sister to champion Halfbridled. Cotton Bay, a $130,000 KEENOV weanling and $245,000 FTKJUL yearling, marks the 10th winner for her freshman sire (by Mr. Greeley). Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $24,000.
