  Santa Anita, Race 3, Msw, 44,800, 3yo, 6f, 1:09 2/5, wf

Mother, F, 3, by Lion Hearted

1st Dam: Proper Lassie, by Topsider
2nd Dam: Proper Miss, by Tom Rolfe
3rd Dam: Proper Princess, by Nodouble

A $10,000 FTMSEP yearling purchase, Mother breezed the fastest eighth of a mile (:10 1/5) ahead of last year’s FTMMAY at the same venue and was knocked down for $150,000 to the bid of Tom Van Meter. The dark bay made her racetrack debut at Hollywood Park Dec. 5, dueling on the front end before holding on gamely for a second-place finish. The 2-5 chalk in her three-year-old debut, the New Jersey-bred stalked the pace from third, rolled up effortlessly to lead past the quater pole and cruised down the stretch, ears pricked, to score by a very easy eight lengths. Stablemate Holiday Gold (Touch Gold) outfinished the rest for second. Lifetime Record: 2-1-1-0, $33,400.
