  NEWMARKET, 1.15, Mdn, 13,275, 2yo, 7fT, 1:26.57, gd

Rob Roy, C, 2, by Lear Fan

1st Dam: Camanoe, by Gone West
2nd Dam: Prodigiou (FR), by Pharly (FR)
3rd Dam: Vichy (FR), by Restless Native

Rob Roy was sent postward for his debut as the 4-1 favorite in this 23-runner field and raced a shade keenly under the cover of midfield in the early stages. Making smooth progress onto the heels of the leaders soon after halfway, he exhibited a sharp burst of acceleration to lead approaching the final furlong and lengthened well ascending the final climb to account for Fortunate Isle (Swain {Ire}) by an impressive 2 1/2 lengths. "He’s a lovely big horse and is still a big baby and still learning," enthused winning rider Kieren Fallon. "He did that well and had to come through a big field, and he handled the undulations no problem." Conditioner Sir Michael Stoute added, "It was a very smooth performance and I’d like to give him another run [this season]. I thought he was very professional through the race." The handsome youngster, a $300,000 KEESEP yearling purchase, is the first foal from the Gone West mare Camanoe, who failed to place in two starts in the colors of owner/breeder Juddmonte Farms. But she is a half sister to Grade I winner Super Staff, multiple graded/group winner Public Purse and stakes winner Mr. Adorable. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, £8,629.
