Carina Mia attracted a bid of $410,000 by Three Chimneys Farm at the 2014 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, as she was a half-sister to Miss Match (Arg) (Indygo Shiner) G1SW-Arg, the winner of the GI Santa Margarita Invitational S. en route to earning $621,614 at the track. The dark bay just failed to last when second to the talented Stageplay (Curlin) first time out over track and trip Oct. 10, but the story was quite a bit different in this second trip to the post, as she romped to 'TDN Rising Stardom' by 9 3/4 lengths. Hammered down to even-money favoritism, the Bill Mott trainee was away to an alert beginning and shared leadership duties with Malibu Stacy (Tizway) to her inside through a quarter mile in :22 flat. She was already a half-length ahead of that rival after a half in :45.15 and dropped the hammer entering the lane–getting her final quarter in a stellar :23.92–to skip home an easy-as-you-please winner over firster Breaking Bread (Quality Road). Her dam Miss Simpatia (Arg), out of Argentinean Group 3 heroine Miss Peggy (Arg) (Fitzcarraldo {Arg}), has a yearling filly by Warrior's Reward and was bred back to Malibu Moon this term. Miss Simpatia is also a full-sister to Argentinean champions Miss Linda (Arg), MG1SW-Arg, GISW-US, as well as G1SW-Arg Mr. Nancho. Lifetime Record: 2-1-1-0, $44,800.
