Made You Look Kicks off 2017 Right in Dania Beach

Made You Look | Adam Coglianese

Made You Look, off since a disappointing run in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf at Santa Anita Nov. 4, got his sophomore season started off on the right hoof with a decisive score here.

The 6-5 favorite kept close tabs on the leaders from fifth, running in the two path as his stablemate Squadron (Midshipman) put up early splits of :23.83 and :48.13. Tipped out three wide to launch a bid at the top of the lane, Made You Look exploded in the stretch to win for fun.

“He was sitting a good turf trip,” trainer Todd Pletcher said. “It looked like [Javier Castellano] was riding confidently, that he had horse and when he tipped him out and he hit the accelerator, he responded quickly.”

Pletcher continued, “The main thing I was disappointed about with the Breeders' Cup was that he didn't run his race. He didn't really fire. When you run your race and get beat, it's one thing, but he just didn't fire.”

Second on debut behind a “TDN Rising Star” performance from Red Lodge (Midshipman) at Belmont May 27, Made You Look earned his diploma going six furlongs next out on the lawn there June 18 and followed suit with a two-length victory over subsequent GIII Bourbon S. winner Keep Quiet (Fr) (Elusive City) in Saratoga's GII With Anticipation S. Aug. 31. He finished sixth, beaten 5 1/2 lengths, in the Juvenile Turf.

Pedigree Notes:

Made You Look was bred by the Robert and Beverly Lewis Trust and his dam Night and Day is a daughter of the Lewises champion Serena's Song. Night and Day, who made only one trip to the post, is a half-sister to stakes winner Serena's Tune (Mr. Prospector), whose daughter Serena's Cat (Storm Cat) produced champion Honor Code and graded stakes winner Noble Tune. Serena's Song is also the dam of Group 1 winner Sophisticat (Storm Cat) and graded stakes winners Grand Reward (Storm Cat) and Harlington (Unbridled). Night and Day produced a colt by Speightstown in 2015 and a colt by Verrazano in 2016. She was bred back to Honor Code.
