Lecomte Likely Next for Saint's Fan

Saint's Fan (Tale of Ekati), winner of Saturday's Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile S., will now be pointed towards the Jan. 21 GIII Lecomte S., according to owner, breeder and trainer Dallas Stewart.

“He looked great today,” Stewart said Sunday. “He's just a natural athlete. He knows how to finish these races off. He showed a good sign yesterday and he had one horse beat on the backside and then came running. Knock on wood, hopefully he stays healthy. He has the best appetite of any young horse I've ever had.”

The Juvenile S. was Saint's Fan second career start. The chestnut colt captured his six-furlong debut at Churchill Nov. 4.

“He's won every [in-company] workout all year long,” Stewart concluded. “He's just been the best and I can't say enough about him as a 2-year-old. He's scary-good. We'll point for the Lecomte.”

Saint's Fan is out of Boy Crazy (Sky Mesa), who raced once for Stewart and co-owner Murray Smith in 2008.

“[Saint's Fan] had a sister named Nola Girl who made about $50,000 and he had another sister who didn't get to the races, so he's the third foal,” Stewart continued. “I also have a yearling half by Custom for Carlos and a foal who is a full-brother by Tale of Ekati. I've got one mare and she puts a great body on them and knocks it out of the park.”
