Jockey Emisael Jaramillo escaped serious injury from a spill in Thursday's 10th race at Gulfstream Park, but is expected to miss the next week with body soreness, his agent Bryce Soth reports.

“The X-rays showed that nothing was broken, but he is very sore,” Soth said. “He's going to take a week to recover and we'll go from there.”

The 40-year-old Venezuelan was thrown to the turf when his mount Cryogenic shied from the whip in the waning stages of the one-mile maiden claiming test on the turf. He was taken from the track by stretcher and transported to Memorial Regional Hospital for observation. He was later released.

A 13-time champion in Venezuela with better than 4000 wins, Jaramillo was the leading rider at the recently concluded meeting at Gulfstream Park West. Jaramillo is the regular jockey for X Y Jet (Kantharos), winner of the GIII Mr. Prospector S. Dec. 23.
