The broadcast of Irish racing will switch from At The Races to Racing UK starting Jan. 1, 2019, Racing Post reports. The change comes after Racecourse Media Group's decision to cut ties with GBI Racing and form a partnership with SIS announced earlier this week. SIS holds the sole and exclusive broadcast rights for all Irish racecourses in a contract dated until the end of 2023. The agreement must be ratified by the Association of Irish Racecourses at a meeting on Tuesday. That organization has the power to veto the move but it is understood it is not likely to exercise it.
Ramifications include the fact that unlike At The Races, Racing UK is subscription-based, creating an extra hurdle for viewers to take in racing.
