International Runners in China for Chengdu's Big Day

China's Jinma Lake Racecourse will play host to the third Dubai International Cup in Chengdu on Saturday.

The RMB 1.5-million contest, which is sponsored by Longines and run over 2218 metres, is the feature of a five-race card, which will include the 2418-metre Wenjiang Meydan Classic; the Guangsha Mile and the 1400-metre Wenjiang Sprint. More than $60,000 in prize-money is up for grabs at the meeting, which is organised in partnership by Meydan Group, the Chengdu Municipal Government, the Chengdu Sports Bureau, the Wenjiang District Government and China Guangsha Group.

Longines President Walter von Kanel commented, “In recent years there has been tremendous new growth in China's equestrian scene and it is an exciting time for modern equestrian sports in this country. One prime example is the Chengdu Dubai International Cup, the first event organised in mainland China with international horses, and we look forward to being the Official Partner and Timekeeper of this prestigious race day for third year running.”

The previous two runnings of the Dubai International Cup have been won by Dubai-trained horses, with Ali Rashid Al Raihe's representative Mutual Force (Arch) landing the inaugural running, followed 12 months later by Special Fighter (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}), who was fourth in Saturday's Dubai World Cup and is trained by Musabah Al Muhairi.
