Mythical Magic, who acted coltish during the preliminaries before winning his July 28 debut going six furlongs at Ascot last time, had his mind very much on the job in hand here to usurp fellow Godolphin colourbearer and TDN Rising Star Cascadian for a career high. Breaking well to seize control racing in the centre of the track, he was stoked up passing the quarter-mile marker and kept on strongly under a drive inside the final 150 metres to hold on in ultimately snug fashion. “He is an imposing colt who won very well first time out at Ascot and confirmed his quality today,” said trainer Charlie Appleby. “He had no problem with the [soft] ground and I think it was a good race with two nice colts finishing first and second. We are thinking about going for the [Oct. 14 G1] Dewhurst [S. at Newmarket] with him and will probably run once more beforehand. We'll see how he comes out of this before formulating a plan and, as he's such a big colt, he might still be a little weak at this stage of his career.”
Mythical Magic is the second black-type scorer produced by Mythie (Fr) (Octagonal {NZ}) and he is a half-brother to G3 Nell Gwyn S. victress Esentepe (Ire) (Oratorio {Ire}) and a yearling filly by Invincible Spirit (Ire). Mythie is a winning half to Listed Prix Saraca winner Mytographie (Fr) (Anabaa), herself the dam of Listed Prix de Pontarme victor Mutin (Fr) (Kentucky Dynamite), from a family which includes stakes-winning GI Sword Dancer Invitational third L'Hermine (GB) (Slip Anchor {GB}).
