Hannon Mulling Barney Roy Options

Richard Hannon has a nice problem on his hands in deciding what top class races to target with Barney Roy (GB) (Excelebration {Ire}) following the Godolphin colt's narrow defeat in the G1 Coral Eclipse at Sandown last week. While the races for a horse like that tend to present themselves, Hannon is still undecided over the amount of racing he wants to give the 3-year-old. “You know the options – it's York for the Juddmonte then the Champion Stakes or just the Champion Stakes, but we'll speak to the team,” Hannon said on Friday. Before Sandown Hannon wasn't entirely convinced Barney Roy would get ten furlongs well but the way he finished off the Eclipse leaves the trainer in no doubt that is now his trip. “He is still in the Sussex [at Goodwood], but it's got to be doubtful. It looks like he should be going a mile and a quarter now. He stayed it very well in the Eclipse and proved the fact that he is one of the best three-year-olds, if not the best three-year-old, around. The future is extremely bright for him this year and next,” he added.
