+DOLPHUS (c, 2, Lookin At Lucky–Lotta Kim {SW & GSP, $146,485}, by Roar), a half-brother to Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra (Medaglia d'Oro, ch. 3yo filly, MGISW, $3,506,730), was made the 8-5 favorite in this debut. The chestnut colt chased the pace from the rail as Biblical Strength (Custom for Carlos) led through a quarter-mile in :22.38. Dolphus dropped back a bit on the turn as a number of rivals attacked the pacesetter, but the colt quickly regained momentum and launched a steady rally down the center of the strip to get up by 3/4 lengths over Roman's Chance (Sun King). Rachel Alexandra is dam of this year's GI Spinaway S. winner Rachel's Valentina (Bernardini) and impressive debut winner Jess's Dream (Curlin), both 'TDN Rising Stars.' Lotta Kim's yearling colt by Malibu Moon sold to Shadwell for $800,000 at this year's Keeneland September sale. She produced a colt by Awesome Again this year and was not bred back.
