Goffs have released the catalogue for their first sale of 2018, the three-day February Sale which takes place Feb. 6-8. The catalogue can be viewed online here and the opening day, which kicks off 11 a.m. features a mixture of 2-year-olds, older horses, horses in training and yearlings. The second day is devoted entirely to yearlings while the final session will see breeding stock and fillies out of training come under the hammer.

Overall there are 338 yearlings catalogued with plenty to attract both pinhookers and end users alike. Many of the top stallions are represented and the ever dependable Kodiac (GB) has four yearlings catalogued, all fillies and they include lot 102 from Tullamaine Castle who is a half-sister to two winners including the stakes placed Signposted (Ire) (Rock Of Gibraltar {Ire}), out of full-sister to Group 1 winner Favourable Terms (GB) (Selkirk {GB}). Muhaarar (GB) made a big impression with his first foals at Goffs last November and the Shadwell stallion has one yearling catalogued (lot 108), a half-sister to a stakes performer out of a half-sister to a champion 2-year-old in Second Empire (Ire) (Fairy King).

Lot 378, a colt by Night Of Thunder (Ire) holds significant international appeal on pedigree being a half-brother to GI Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint and multiple Grade I winner Obviously (Ire) (Choisir {Aus}), while no good sale would be complete without a choicely bred Dark Angel (Ire) offering. There is only a single yearling by the Yeomanstown Stud stallion catalogued and that is lot 397 from The Premier Consignment. The March born colt is out of the stakes winner Mary Boleyn (Ire) (King's Best) who has already produced a stakes performer in Clotilde (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}). A colt from a family replete with speed is lot 372. The son of Make Believe (Fr) is a half-brother to multiple group-winning sprinter Hamza (Ire) (Amadeus Wolf {GB}) from the family of Anthem Alexander (Ire) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}) and Dandy Man (Ire) (Mozart {Ire}).

The breeding stock section features drafts from The Aga Khan Studs, Ballylinch Stud, Baroda & Colbinstown, Moyglare Stud and The Castlebridge Consignment, among others and the last named vendor offer a daughter of Classic winner Nightime (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) called La Chapelle (Ire) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}). Lot 600, offered in foal to Fascinating Rock (Ire) is not only out of a G1 Irish 1000 Guineas winner but she is also a half-sister to both GI Man O'War S. winner Zhukova (Ire) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}), who sold for 3.7-million gns in December and Ghaiyyath (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), a €1.1m foal purchase in Goffs and a lively Classic prospect for 2018. Some interesting maiden mares are also catalogued; including lot 578, Jim Bolger's multiple stakes winner Glamorous Approach (Ire) (New Approach {Ire}) and lot 545 Damila (Fr) (Milanais {Fr}) from Baroda & Colbinstown who was a group 3 winner in France.

Goffs chief executive Henry Beeby is looking forward to another vibrant year of trade at Kildare Paddocks and said, “The Goffs February Sale, the largest in Europe at this time of year, is a clear market leader whose popularity is illustrated by the demand for places this year. Buyers from home and abroad will find unrivalled choice and quality throughout the catalogue with a day and a half of yearlings, a strong selection of broodmares and fillies, and a wide variety of Flat and National stock of all ages.”
