CAPEZZANO (c, 2, Bernardini–Cableknit, by Unbridled's Song) improved for a runner-up effort behind the promising Cosmo Charlie (Stay Thirsty) on his dirt debut Dec. 15 and reported home a comfortable two-length winner in the evening's first race at Meydan Racecourse. Given a perfect stalking trip beneath Colm O'Donoghue, the homebred colt relaxed nicely off the flank of the well-regarded Bee Jersey (Jersey Town) before coming after that one in earnest once into the stretch. Bee Jersey kicked on at the rail, but Capezzano was always ready to pounce, hit the front outside the eighth pole and ran out a good-looking winner. Fawree (Candy Ride {Arg}) was slow away from the stalls and was trapped out on the track for most of the trip, but came on very nicely in the final 200m to be a good runner-up. The winner's dam, a $1.7-million Keeneland September yearling, is a daughter of Silken Cat (Storm Cat), making her a half-sister to the outstanding sire Speightstown. Cableknit produced fillies by More Than Ready in 2015 and 2016 and was most recently bred to Macho Uno. Lifetime Record: 3-1-1-0, $32,676. VIDEO
