Go With The Flow

Thursday's Listed UAE 1000 Guineas is made up largely of two groups: 'TDN Rising Star' Polar River (Congrats), and the fillies that have chased her around the track in her two dominating wins. The Doug Watson trainee was an eye-popping 13 1/2-length maiden winner on debut at Meydan Dec. 3, and she followed up with a 4 3/4-length score in the trial for this race Jan. 14. Trainer Doug Watson reported the bay to be ready to go, saying, “She is in great form and we are really looking forward to running her again.” Jockey Pat Dobbs added, “I would be very surprised if she gets beaten, to be honest. Her attitude is good and she's straightforward in every way. She has a really good turn of foot and a high cruising speed.”

Godolphin's Promising Run (Hard Spun) was well adrift of Polar River when second in the trial, but on the ratings she is considered equal at 107. The Saeed bin Suroor charge won Newmarket's G2 Rockfel S. last year and was making her first start in the trial since finishing seventh in the G1 Dubai Fillies' Mile in October, so if she can come on for that run, she looks the one to pose the greatest danger to the favorite. The only one in the field to have not yet met Polar River is Promising Run's stablemate Dubai Fashion (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), who was a first-up winner at Wolverhampton in September but has to rebound from a fifth in a Newmarket conditions race on Halloween.
