Get Jets Gets Up in Sleepy Hollow

Get Jets | Adam Coglianese

Get Jets gave his leading juvenile sire an eighth 2-year-old black-type winner on the season with a grind-it-out score as the even-money favorite in the Sleepy Hollow S. at Belmont Park. Though he was drawn low in the field of nine, Get Jets was kept out in the four or five path, which translated to an overland trip on the turn from mid-division. The scopey chestnut crept into contention when the field arrived at the quarter pole and looked to idle a bit in the final furlong, but managed to claw past Fish Trappe Road (Trappe Shot) for a narrow victory. Governor Malibu (Malibu Moon) was third. An impressive 4 1/2-length maiden winner at the Spa Aug. 19, Get Jets came with a similar late rally in the Sept. 27 Bertram F. Bongard S. only to fall a neck short of the reopposing Sudden Surprise (Giant Surprise). A $162,000 purchase as a yearling out of the Fasig-Tipton New York-Bred Sale in 2014, Get Jets was clocked in 'just' :11 flat for the OBS April sale, but was hammered down to these connections for $300,000. “I'm really happy,” said jubilant winning trainer Anthony Dutrow. “His pedigree says he'd stretch out, and to watch him stretch out today was very gratifying and hopeful for him in his upcoming 3-year-old year. He got some pace today; he didn't last time. There was no plan, [jockey] Irad [Ortiz, Jr.] was just going to play it as it happened. I have to be very happy with today's performance, and with the way he finished up.” Get Jets hails from the same family as Japanese G1SW A Shin Forward (Forest Wildcat). Sunny produced colts by Broken Vow and Caleb's Posse in 2014 and 2015, respectively. She was bred back to Broken Vow this spring.
