Although previously placed at the top level the Mick Kent trained Supido (Aus) (Sebring {Aus}) gained his first stakes win when justifying favouritism in the G3 Monash S. at Caulfield on Saturday. The Gilgai Farm bred entire was settled in rear early by Luke Nolen in the 1100m contest before being unleashed by Nolen early in the straight. He showed a smart change of gear to beat Daytona Grey (Aus) (Artie Schiller) by three quarters of a length leaving his trainer relieved after filling in a gap on the horse's resume. “It's good to get that win out of the way because it's his first stakes win. He's been Group One and Group Two placed and I was dying to get him a stakes win,” Kent told Racing And Sports. Supido showed he can handle himself against the best when he finished third to Black Heart Bart (Aus) (Blackfriars {Aus}) in the G1 Darley Goodwood at Morphettville last year and his trainer is keen to give him another chance at winning a Group 1. “I think he's a Group One horse. He's had a few issues. He gets sore feet and hard ground niggles him a bit but he's come back really well this time. It's the happiest I've been with him for a while,” he said.
