Equine Herpes Outbreak at Cagnes-sur-Mer

A horse at Cagnes-sur-Mer is currently being treated for the lethal neurological variant of equine herpes virus, France Galop confirmed to Racing Post on Wednesday. Three other horses from the same stable are in isolation after spiking fevers, although none have shown any other EHV-1 symptoms. Currently running its winter jumps meeting, Cagnes-sur-Mer's flat meeting commences on Jan. 13. Biosecurity measures are now in place at the course, with France Galop also opening up the Maisons-Laffitte quarantine boxes for trainers who wish to monitor horses returning from Cagnes before returning to their yards. EHV-1 affected prominent French trainer Jean-Claude Rouget's yard in Pau this past April, resulting in two fatalties.
