Egan Handed Twelve Year Ban

Darren Egan | Racing Post

Darren Egan has been hit with a twelve year ban from riding by the British Horseracing Authority. The former apprentice jockey, who showed great promise in the saddle from an early age, was found to have engaged in a conspiracy with unlicensed individual Philip Langford, who at the time was given an immediate exclusion order which will remain in place for at least the next 15 years. A BHA disciplinary panel said Langford layed Egan's rides between June 17 and July 16, 2013, with the jockey charged with having deliberately ridden to lose in two of those races – at Chepstow July 12 and at Bath July 16. The disciplinary panel also stated that Egan wrote an email to the BHA in November of last year accepting he had broken the rules but that he 'desperately' needed the money. In two full seasons riding in Britain in 2012 and 2013 Egan rode 69 winners and had established himself as a highly promising young jockey. He enjoyed a fruitful association with trainer Ron Harris and guided the Harris trained sprinter Judge 'n Jury (GB) (Pivotal {GB} to two victories at York in his first season riding in Britain. Egan's suspension runs until November 22 2027.
