Two-time Grade I winner Divisidero (Kitten's Joy–Madame Du Lac, by Lemon Drop Kid) has been retired from racing and will take up stud duties in 2020 at Brereton Jones's Airdrie Stud. He will command a fee of $7,500, stands and nurses. A $250,000 Keeneland September yearling, the bay took the GII American Turf S. and Pennine Ridge S. at three before adding back-to-back runnings of the GI Woodford Reserve Turf Classic S. in 2016 and 2017 on the GI Kentucky Derby undercard while under the tutelage of Buff Bradley. Transferred from Bradley to Kelly Rubley ahead of his 6-year-old campaign in 2018, Divisidero annexed the GIII Arlington H. and was beaten less than a length when fourth in last year's GI Breeders' Cup Mile. He took Monmouth's GIII Red Bank S. this Sept. 1 and retires with career earnings of $1,606,762 from a record of 29-7-6-4.
Bred by Hinkle Farms, Divisidero's pedigree traces back to blue hen and Broodmare of the Year, Cosmah, the dam of Halo. Cosmah's dam, Almahmoud, also produced Natalma, the dam of Northern Dancer, and great-granddam of dual-hemisphere sensation, Danehill.
“Divisidero is a multiple Grade I-winning millionaire by one of the best stallions in the world and from one of the most important female families the breed has known,” said Airdrie Stud's Bret Jones. “When he was at his best, he beat the top turf horses in America at the Grade I level and did so with the turn-of-foot of a special horse. He deserves every chance to become an important sire, and we are going to give him that opportunity by supporting him heavily here at Airdrie.”
