RIGHTEOUS RUTH (f, 3, Tiznow–Rutherienne, GISW, $1,298,671, by Pulpit), who closed to be a productive second in her career debut going 7 ½ furlongs at the Hallandale oval June 11 went off the 4-5 choice this time. Breaking sharply, Righteous Ruth was eased back to a stalking fourth behind a free-running Queen Jill (Giant's Causeway) in the early going. Eager to do more as the field worked its way down the backstretch, the dark bay snuck in along the rail while picking up the tempo approaching the quarter pole, swung to the outside of the tiring leader on the turn and drew clear to win by 3 3/4 lengths over Queen Jill. Mauras Forever (War Front) was third. Grade I scorer Rutherienne–who amassed almost $1.3 million during her racing career–currently has a two-year-old filly by Kitten's Joy and foaled a filly by Curlin this term.
