Chus Named New Owner of the Year

Susan and Charles Chu

California-based owners Charles and Susan Chu, who campaign Eclipse Award-winning sprinter Drefong (Gio Ponti) under their Baoma Corporation banner, have been named 2017 New Owner of the Year, presented by Fasig-Tipton. The award is given to a new Thoroughbred owner “who has been successful in the sport and has had a positive impact on the industry” and will be presented during the Fourth Thoroughbred Owner Conference to be held Oct. 30-Nov. 1 during Breeders' Cup week in Del Mar.

The Chus have also been represented GSW & GISP Chitu, who raced in the colors of Susan Chu's Tanma Corporation; GSW Faypien (Ghostzapper), runner-up in this year's GI Test S. at Saratoga; and Lord Simba (Discreet Cat), winner of this year's GIII Los Angeles S.

Previous winners of the New Owner of the Year award include LNJ Foxwoods and Sol Kumin. Jeff Fager, an award-winning producer of CBS News's 60 Minutes program and a Thoroughbred owner, will deliver the conference's keynote speech.
