'Charline' Headed to Balanchine

Euro Charline | Racing Post

Grade I winner Euro Charline (GB) (Myboycharlie {Ire}) will kick off her 5-year-old season in the G2 Balanchine S. at Meydan Mar. 3, owner Team Valor International revealed Wednesday. Euro Charline hasn't won since besting Stephanie's Kitten (Kitten's Joy) in the GI Beverly D. S. in August of 2014, and was last seen finishing fifth in Leopardstown's

G1 Matron S. on Irish Champions Weekend in September. Euro Charline will be ridden by her Beverly D. partner, Ryan Moore, in the Balanchine, which she will use as a prep for the G1 Dubai Turf Mar. 26. The bay finished fourth in that $6-million event last year.

“We have been trying to get Ryan back aboard the mare ever since the Beverly D.,” explained Team Valor President Barry Irwin. “She is a hard mare to settle and Ryan has the knack. He was able to get her to relax at Arlington Park and it is key that she begin her season with a relaxed attitude instead of trying to use her speed early in a race.”
