CBS' Jeff Fager to Deliver Keynote at Owner Conference

Jeff Fager

Award-winning executive producer and Thoroughbred owner Jeff Fager will deliver the keynote address at the fourth Thoroughbred Owner Conference in Del Mar, California. Held at the Hilton San Diego/ Del Mar from Oct. 30 – Nov. 1, 2017, the event is staged annually in the week leading up to the Breeders' Cup World Championships. Breeders' Cup Ltd. is also a presenting sponsor. OwnerView is a joint effort spearheaded by The Jockey Club and the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association to encourage ownership of Thoroughbreds and provide information on horse ownership.

Fager became interested in horse racing through his father, Dr. Charles Fager, the Boston-based neurosurgeon that is credited with saving the life of legendary trainer John Nerud in 1965. In return, Nerud honored the doctor with his equine namesake–Dr. Fager–who went on to garner a myriad of titles, 1968 Horse of the Year. Dr. Charles Fager passed away at the age of 90 in April of 2014, and John Nerud died at the age of 102 Aug. 13, 2015. Currently, Fager owns and co-owns Thoroughbred racehorses in New York and Ireland. He has campaigned the stakes runners Miss Melinda and Final Chapter.

At the helm of the acclaimed show “60 Minutes” the past 14 years, Fager also served as the first chairman of CBS News from 2011-2014, when he reorganized the news division's platforms on television, radio and the internet. He was the recipient of the 2012 Paul White Award, which recognizes an individual's lifetime contributions to electronic journalism, from the Radio Television Digital News Association.
