'TDN Rising Star Cathryn Sophia (Street Boss), this year's GI Kentucky Oaks heroine and most recently a distant third to champion and fellow Rising Star Songbird (Medaglia d'Oro) in the GI Cotillion S. Sept. 24, will skip this year's Breeders' Cup where she was expected to cut back in distance for the GI Filly and Mare Sprint.

Owned by Chuck Zacney's Cash Is King LLC, the Maryland-bred Cathryn Sophia recorded her first breeze since the Cotillion effort Wednesday, covering a half-mile in :47.46 (2/14), but the move was not enough to sway trainer John Servis.

“Her white blood count was a little high after the Cotillion,” the conditioner commented. “I watched her very closely after the race and actually she recovered from that remarkably fast. I gave her a little work [Wednesday] which I thought was solid, but I really wanted to see spectacular. Horses of this quality are a rarity and you have to take care of them. Her Oaks win was the kind of performance you never forget as a trainer. It is a great feeling to see her end the year healthy and happy.”

Added Zacney: “What a ride this has been, I mean she has won six of nine races for us by over 50 lengths. We have been so blessed in the horse business with Afleet Alex and now Cathryn Sophia. ”

Prior to her sensational score beneath the Twin Spires, Cathryn Sophia romped in the GII Forward Gal S. and the GII Davona Dale S. and was third in the GI Ashland S. She also rounded out the trifecta in the GI Acorn S. and has current earnings of $1,229,720.

Cathryn Sophia is consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency as hip 113 to the upcoming Fasig-Tipton November Mixed Sale in Lexington.
