ABYSSINIAN (f, 2, Cairo Prince&log=">Cairo Prince–Shesakitty {GSP}, by Tapit) gave her freshman sire (by Pioneerof the Nile) his first winner with a wire-to-wire romp as the 7-10 chalk in the Belmont opener Saturday. Left in to meet the starter after entrymate Romani (Daaher) scratched, the filly jetted straight to the front and cut out a quarter-mile in :22.30 in the clear. Never threatened, she reported home in hand, crossing the wire six lengths clear of Mertz (Ghostzapper). Abyssinian was the 4-5 favorite for her May 3 debut over this same track and trip, but was collared inside the eighth pole by her less-fancied stablemate Mae Never No (Ire) (No Nay Never) and settled for second. The winner's dam, third in the 2012 GIII Debutante S., is responsible for a yearling filly by Competitive Edge and was most recently bred to this sire's Airdrie stallion barnmate Summer Front. Sales history: $70,000 Ylg '17 KEESEP. Lifetime Record: 2-1-1-0, $70,000. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
