William Buick returns from eight weeks on the sidelines to partner 'TDN Rising Star' Blue Point (Ire) (Shamardal) in Saturday's G3 John Guest Bengough S. at Ascot. The leading rider has been out of action since falling from the ill-fated Permian (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}) in the GI Secretariat S. in America in early August, which caused a compression of his T12 vertebra. Although no surgery was required, Buick had to give the injury time to heal before he returned to riding work in Newmarket last week and he has now been passed fit for a competitive comeback this weekend.
Blue Point's trainer, Charlie Appleby, said, “It's great to have William back. He started riding out last week and he's been itching to get back, he's just been waiting for the green light from the doctor. We're in a very privileged position here at Godolphin to have been able to call on people like James Doyle, who has ridden loads of winners for us in the last few weeks. It's just the way it's worked out that Blue Point is William's first ride back and it's appropriate given he knows the horse so well. There are still a good six weeks of the season left yet and there's plenty of international racing coming up, so I'm sure we'll be keeping both William and James busy.”
