The Barretts January Mixed Sale will be held Tuesday at the company's old stomping grounds at Fairplex in Pomona. A total of 213 lots have been catalogued for the one-session auction, which gets underway at 11 a.m. PT. There are 116 newly turned yearlings and 2-year-olds in the catalogue, as well as a selection of broodmares and horses of racing age. A 2-year-old filly by High Cotten attracted the highest price at the 2016 January sale, when selling for $55,000. In total, 143 horses grossed $1,188,000 last year, for an average of $8,308 and a median of $5,000. Barretts will return to Del Mar for the next sale on its 2017 calendar, the March Select 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale on Mar. 29.
